Lucius Banda is banned again in Malawi

A prominent Malawian musician censored by his government is refusing to shut up. Lucius Banda is Malawi's prominent musician but the government banned his latest album from enjoying airplay on all stations owned by the dominant Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC). The album, known as Fifteen Fifteen, has touched some raw nerves in the Malawian government because of some of its "sensitive" lyrics. The acting controller of programmes at MBC, David Kamkwamba justified the ban on Banda's music by saying the corporation had every right to determine what it airs and what it doesn't.

Amnesty Demands Release of Malawian Gays

AMNESTY International has urged aauthorities in Malawi to immediately and unconditionally release two Malawian men currently in jail for being homosexuals. Steven Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga, were arrested on 28 December 2009 and charged with 'unnatural practices between males and gross public indecency' after they united in Malawi's first ever gay engagement.
