Who we are
Africa Editor Basildon Peta is an award winning journalist who has worked as a foreign correspondent for various international media organisations over the last 12 years. Based in Johannesburg since 2002 when he was hounded out of his native Zimbabwe by the Robert Mugabe regime at the height of its repression. Peta remains the youngest ever recipient of the premier award for journalism in southern Africa, the MISA Press Freedom Award, which he won for exposing corruption in the Zimbabwe government in 1994 when he was only 22. He has netted various other awards in his long carreer. Peta has trained as a lawyer at the University of South Africa, though he is not about to part company with his first love, journalism.
